We use MailerLite to manage subscriptions, email confirmations, newsletter delivery and unsubscribe requests.

Where confirmation is required, readers must confirm their email address before receiving newsletters.

You can withdraw your consent using the unsubscribe link included in our newsletters. Withdrawal does not affect the lawfulness of earlier processing based on consent.

The signup form sends your email address through this website to MailerLite. Our subscription handler does not keep a separate subscriber database or log email addresses.

Service providers

The publication’s service arrangements are:

• MailerLite for newsletter subscriptions and delivery.
• Cloudflare is planned for domain management, website delivery and security. Production use has not yet been verified.
• Apple iCloud Mail is the intended service for publication correspondence. The public mailbox setup has not yet been verified.

These providers may process information necessary to deliver their services, subject to their applicable data protection arrangements. Where Cloudflare delivers and protects the website, this may include IP addresses, request and traffic information.

Providers may process information outside the European Economic Area. MailerLite’s data processing addendum and Cloudflare’s data processing addendum describe safeguards for applicable international transfers, including European Commission Standard Contractual Clauses. Apple’s privacy policy also describes international processing and Standard Contractual Clauses for transfers of EEA personal data.

Data retention

We retain subscription information while necessary to manage subscriptions.

After unsubscribing, limited information may be retained where necessary to respect opt-out requests and prevent unwanted resubscription.

Correspondence and technical records are retained only for appropriate operational, security or legal purposes.

The retention periods or detailed review and deletion criteria for subscriber records, unconfirmed signups, opt-out records, correspondence and provider logs have not yet been finalised. This draft does not promise automatic deletion after a fixed period.

Cookies and local storage

The current reader-facing website code does not set cookies or load advertising trackers, visitor analytics, third-party fonts or embedded signup services. Documents are displayed using a locally bundled PDF reader.

The website uses localStorage in your browser to remember the date an automatic newsletter prompt appeared and whether a signup request was handled. It also honours an older subscription flag. These values contain a date or a true/false flag, not your email address, and are not sent to MailerLite.

The prompt date is checked against your local calendar day. Stored values have no automatic expiry and remain until you clear the site’s browser data. Clearing them can allow the prompt to appear again. If storage is blocked, automatic prompts are suppressed.

Your selected article category is remembered in the current browser history entry so it can be restored when you return.

The consent requirements for newsletter-prompt storage still need review before launch. Production Cloudflare features and any associated security cookies also need to be checked. No optional analytics or tracking is assumed to be enabled.

Your rights

Under applicable data protection law, readers may have rights to access, correct, erase, restrict or receive their personal information, and to object to certain processing.

Newsletter consent can be withdrawn at any time.
